Judge Frequently Asked Questions
Am I qualified to be a judge?
Due to the variety of events in which members can compete, professionals with a variety of skills and experiences are needed to serve as event judges. Judges do not necessarily need to have a health science background to participate. Competitive event guidelines can be reviewed at http://www.hosa.org/guidelines which will give you a sense of event subject matter/skills and judging criteria. Specific judge instructions/information, answers to the competition questions (if applicable) and scoring guidelines are given to judges well before the start of the conference.
How much time would judging require?
Competitive events can last 1-5 hours, depending on the event. Estimated total time will be between 2-4 hours. If you are interested, we would love to have you judge multiple competitive events. They could be in the same general field or, to see the variety of events HOSA encompasses, you could judge an entirely different style of event later in the day.
Where are events held?
WAHOSA State Leadership Conference will be held at the Spokane Convention Center. You'll be provided specific directions to your event(s) location within the convention center and WAHOSA personnel contact information in your judge information packet.
Will I be reimbursed for any expenses?
No. However, WAHOSA will provide meals, parking and admission to the opening and closing ceremonies. A continental breakfast will be provided, as well as, lunch in the afternoon. If you would like to attend the opening and/or closing ceremony, you will need to check in at the conference registration booth beforehand the day they are held.
How do I sign-up?
Please review the competitive events and decide which you would like to judge. Then register by completing the Judge Registration Form. We will follow-up with your specific event assignment(s) and the information you'll need to successfully judge your events.
If you have additional questions regarding, please contact the Washington HOSA Competitive Events Committee.
